Laser Dentistry is Ideal for People With Dental Anxiety

Although most people with dental anxiety may feel that they are alone, it is one of the most common anxieties that people have regarding the medical field — but laser dentistry can help. Although there has not been detailed research, there are estimates that between 30 and 75 percent of people are anxious about going to the dentist. It is also in our instincts that we are supposed to keep our mouth and throat safe, and going to the dentist is putting both of these areas open which cause the fight or flight response of anxiety.

However, with recent technology advancements, there could be hope for people with dental anxiety in the form of lasers. Today we will briefly touch on how this technology is not only making dentistry even more advanced but immensely helping people with overcoming anxiety about going to the dentist.

How does laser dentistry help with dental anxiety?

Not only does laser dentistry have technology that helps in identifying tooth decay and cavities before even the most trained dentist could using their eyes, but the aspect that it is needle-free and pain-free is also another added benefit. Typically, the reason for people having dental anxiety is due to the possible pain from the different processes that a dentist will complete during cleaning and examination.

For dentists, the technology gives them the opportunity to help their patients even more. And for the patients with anxiety about going to the dentist, Laser dentistry is ideal and will have them being anxiety-free from start to finish.

How does laser dentistry help in keeping teeth healthier?

Of course, for people with dental anxiety, the aspect of visiting a dentist and not experiencing that feeling is enough. They can also rest more comfortable knowing that the technology that is being used is also greatly helping their oral health. By using the different lasers, the dentist cannot only spot possible cavities and tooth decay but do a cleaning that is considerably more effective than the old scraping of the teeth.

How do the lasers work?

There are two types of lasers typically used in laser dentistry hard and soft tissue lasers, with each having a different effect.

Soft tissue lasers

The soft tissue lasers are used for the cleaning aspect in laser dentistry. The laser is used to clean the teeth and ensure that there is no tooth decay forming. However, there is no scraping and vibrations felt by the patient.

Hard tissue lasers

The hard tissue lasers are used for the detection of cavities and tooth decay. The lasers can detect the issues long before a dentist would be able to see them with the naked eye. This gives them the chance to head off any problems long before it would typically be noticed.
